Vesta, a Lubrizol company is a contract manufacturer that specializes in producing thermoplastic extruded tubing and components for medical devices that are used in hospitals internationally.

Vesta is located in Corona California which is located in Riverside County.
We less than 30 miles away from the beach and Disneyland.

Vesta Corona, California location has a class 8 certified clean room, which is 17,000 square feet.
We have 14 extrusion lines as well as co-ex lines.
We are able to run multiple extruders which can produce a two layer, stripes and three layer extrusion.

The Extrusion Operator is responsible for carrying out the production of medical grade extruded tubing.
The primary responsibility of the Extrusion Operator is to manufacture tubing to customer given specifications, which will differ from customer to customer.
The Extrusion Operator uses lean tools for process improvement ideas, 5S, Value streams, Kanban, and 3P for ergonomic work station improvement, continuous flow and single piece flow to reduce scrap and meet task and cycle times.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Sets up extrusion jobs, verifies correct pin, tool and dies are used per the work order and customer drawing.
  • Cleaning, assembly, dismantle, and maintenance of extrusion and ancillary equipment.
  • Extrusion of tubing to desired specifications and within allotted schedules.
  • Documenting of process parameters.
  • Debugging and modifying of process as required.
  • Ability to read basic and understand CAD drawings.
  • Careful not to damage tool and screws before and after the run.
  • Verifies and confirms all routers and work order instructions before moving to the next operation.
  • Understand and follow the SOP s and work instructions pertaining to the area.
  • Familiarity with extrusion equipment and other machinery.
  • Basic knowledge of plastics.
  • Basic understanding of tooling design.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to work hours standing in a clean environment.
  • Use of propane torches and polishing wheels.
  • Use of basic hand tools.
  • Ability to work with hot plastic.
  • Experience in extrusion of thermo plastic material
  • Understanding of ISO requirements as well as conformance to all Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices.

DESCRIPTION OF MARGINAL DUTIES:

  • Observe and promote Company standards and policies on safety, quality and productivity.
  • Understand Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in medical device and clean room environment.
  • Support and observe 5S and other lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Restock supplies for next shift.
  • When applicable, the technician will keep machine(s) running until the next shift technician has arrived and accepted responsibility of continuing the run.

  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years experience as an extrusion operator, preferably in medical or equivalent.
  • Plus some additional specialized training.
  • Mechanical, machine operating or extrusion experience (preferred).

During Extrusion Technician work, employee will constantly be exposed to dynamic standing/walking and use of hands to finger/handle or touch.
The employee will occasionally be exposed static standing/sitting, to pushing/pulling (up to 25 lbs of force), floor to knuckle lift/lower (up to 25lbs), knuckle to shoulder lift/lower (up to 25 lbs), shoulder to overhead lift/lower, climb/balance (on stairs/ladder), stoop, kneel, crouch/crawl, reach above shoulders and repetitive bending or squatting with rare (if ever) exposure to sustained bending or use foot/feet to operate machine.

The following vision requirements apply:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will constantly be exposed to working near moving mechanical parts with occasional exposure to working in high/precarious places (ladder), fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level is considered moderate (business office with computer printers/light traffic).

safety glasses in the designated areas, hairnet/beardnet and jumpsuit when on the production floor, gloves when handling hot objects or solvents, earplugs when required and steel toed shoes (preferred).

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/COMPUTER SOFTWARE:

The employee will occasionally use QAD/Factivity (or similar ERP or labor/material reporting software), PC with Microsoft Office Products, Pixrus set up (or similar software) and calipers, micrometers, rulers, veneer and snap gages with frequent use of screw speed digital and laser adjustments.
